Raised in a middle-class family, Iqra is the daughter of Farooq Ahmad, a tailor. Despite limited financial resources, her parents prioritized her education, making sacrifices to support her aspirations. Farooq Ahmad expressed his gratitude to Allah and pride in his daughter’s accomplishment, sharing with Kashmir Despatch that although he could not always provide extensive support, Iqra’s determination and hard work led her to achieve remarkable success.
Educational Journey and Inspiration
Iqra’s path to success in the JKAS was marked by determination, resilience, and a clear vision. During her undergraduate studies, she developed a passion for serving the community and realized that she could make a meaningful impact through public service. After completing her B.Sc., she pursued an M.Sc. and, in 2021, set her sights on the JKAS. Her journey demanded dedication, with daily study routines that often lasted 5-6 hours.
Reflecting on her decision to embark on this path, Iqra mentioned the importance of persistence and resilience. “Hard work is never wasted; you must work hard for a bright and successful future,” she shared in an interview with Kashmir Despatch. She emphasized that today, access to education is more democratized than ever, thanks to resources available online. “With internet access, anyone can find the resources needed for a promising career. Google can provide guidance if you truly set a goal for success.”
Overcoming Financial Challenges
Coming from a modest background, Iqra acknowledged the financial struggles her family faced. However, she credits her parents for their unwavering support, despite the limited resources. “It’s one’s own efforts that will ultimately lead to success,” she remarked. Without the luxury of private coaching, Iqra relied on self-study, utilizing free resources online and making the most of available materials.
Success in JKPSC KAS 2024
The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) announced the results of the Combined Competitive Examinations (CCE)-2023, and Iqra Farooq secured the 2nd rank with 1078 points. She stands behind Sanjeev Kumar, who scored 1089 points, while Vasudha Sharma achieved the 3rd rank with 1075 points. Iqra’s achievement not only brought pride to her family and community but also served as an inspiration to young aspirants across Kashmir. She shared that upon seeing her rank, she was overwhelmed with joy, checking the results multiple times to confirm the reality.

Iqra’s message to future candidates is rooted in her own experiences and challenges. She advises aspirants to remain dedicated, resilient, and focused. “Do not lose hope. Work hard, and success will definitely come to you,” she said. She encouraged candidates facing setbacks to continue striving, reminding them that success is often the result of unwavering determination and consistent effort.
Support from Her Father and Family
Iqra’s father, Farooq Ahmad, expressed his immense pride in her accomplishment. He highlighted her self-study approach, noting that she had not received any private coaching yet managed to secure an impressive rank in one of the most competitive exams in the state. “Like every father, I have worked round the clock to provide financial support to my family,” he said, reflecting the sacrifices and efforts made by her family.
Future Aspirations and Vision
